I realize that The Board has not be finalized yet, so I am starting this thread because I do not know where else to send it. Perhaps this thread will become a way for MTRA memebers to address The Board.
After the MTRA meeting in Moutnain City yesterday I felt I needed to voice some concerns to The Board about Permit Fees for Doe Mountain. Of course I realize that there are a lot of operating costs for running & maintaining the trails and facilities.
The Board needs to choose the right Permit Fees with balance a of fairness to both the riders and to Doe Mountain's balance sheet. If the fees are too high riders will not come, and if the fees are too low Doe Mtn. cannot cover the operating expenses. From what I understand Doe Mtn. is being established as a "public non-profit organization" with the goal of economic development for Mountain City and Johnson County by increasing recreational tourism.
Brown Mtn & Buffalo Mtn has a daily fee of $5 per day, while Hatfield McCoy charges $50 per year for out-of-state permits.
Maybe Doe can can offer riders the choice of buying a day permit or an annual permit.
The day permit will offer them an affordable opportunity to see just how great the trails are on Doe Mtn., and the annual pass will give them the incentive to visit Doe Mtn often. (Many folks would not appreciate being forced to purchase an annual permit to sample the trails for the first time.)
Thank you,
Glenn Randle

Glenn,
Thanks for adding this topic to the forum, Good idea! I did edit the title to add (Doe Mountain Board of Authority) so that everyone would know that this thread is directed towards that Board and not towards the Mountain Trail Riders Board.
I Agree with the day pass and annual pass idea!

Hello All,
For those of you who haven't heard.....According to the Mountain City Tomahawk, Mayor Potter announced that the Doe Mountain Board of Authority has finally completed all appointments to the board and the first meeting was held Nov. 20th at the First Tennessee Development District in Johnson City. Hope this means thing will start moving forward. I also would like to see more updates on this forum as things develop!!! Are minutes to the Board meeting available? Or can someone post any important developments? I'm assuming that there was no Mnt. Trail Riders Assoc. Meeting Thanksgiving Day. Will the next meeting be 27th of Dec.?
See y'all on the Mountain soon! Dan and Rita

I will be looking forward to hearing about everything that has been acomplished over the holiday break. Hopefully there will be a trail map soon, and plans for scheduling trail work days. It would be great to hear when a mini dozer has been aquired. I read somthing in the newspaper article about a college class, or maybe a company, that will be working on the mapping of Doe Mtn. Maybe there will be more details about that at the January meeting. I'm sure Santa's going to been shopping for a lot of trail bikes & quads lately. Ho! Ho! Ho!
